JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients at the Duke Perinatal Clinic in Cary, NC. The schedule for this position is 8:00am-4:30pm (or until last patient leaves) with no weekends or holidays. This position allows the unique opportunity to get to know patients during their prenatal period and for continuous learning as the patients have a variety of health conditions. Professional development opportunities include advancing on the CMA clinical ladder and participating in clinic committees.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative duties may include but not limited to the following:
Answer telephones
Greet patients
Update and file patient medical records
Complete FMLA forms for patients as directed
Complete insurance forms
Handle correspondence
Schedule appointments
Arrange for hospital admissions
Arrange for laboratory services
Perform other administrative duties as directed
Clinical Duties may include but not limited to the following
Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including:
Taking medical histories and recording vital signs
Explaining treatment procedures to patients
Preparing patients for examinations and procedures
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
Dispose of contaminated supplies
Sterilize medical instruments
Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record
Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
Authorize drug refills as directed
Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician
Be present on site for 8 hour shifts during standard clinic hours and be able to work overtime as needed to complete patient care
Participates in performance improvement projects and/or clinic committees and assists in Joint Commission preparedness
Participate in group activities requiring interpersonal skills and cooperation
Maintain attention to detail over extended period of time, and be continually aware of variations in changing situations
Maintain a pleasant attitude despite the demands/stressors of the day
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
High school or GED graduation required.
Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. Please specify on resume which certification you have, certification number, and expiration date.
