JOB SUMMARY The Magnet Coordinator Registered Nurse (RN) is designated by the entity's Chief Nursing Officer, and on his/her behalf leads and coordinates activities related to the hospital's journey to Magnet designation. The Magnet Coordinator is well versed on all Magnet standards and acts as a resource and liaison between the CNO and others to assess and facilitate organization readiness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Ensures that the infrastructure and processes for achieving Magnet designation are developed and sustained.
Coordinates preparation of Magnet documents for submission; may write and/or edit much of the content. Coordinates collection of data pertinent to Magnet submission requirements. Prepares, analyzes and interprets data and prepares progress reports as required.
Organizes and prepares for Magnet site visit; coordinates all events and activities during Magnet site visit.
Coaches and mentors nurses at all levels of the organization in their understanding and practical application of Magnet standards. Coordinates organizational wide communication methods for the Magnet initiatives.
Leads the process of conducting a Magnet gap analysis re: organizational journey to designation.
Serves as an administrator / trainer for the knowledge management tool (eTeams) for shared governance council members.
Participates in system-wide development, tracking and reporting of adequate benchmarking and reporting of quality/safety nurse sensitive indicators (i.e., NDNQI). Tracks progress of facility councils and entity representation in BSWH councils.
Facilitates in collaboration with appropriate nursing leaders the process of nurse professional participation activities such as certification, abstract submission, professional organizations, community services, etc.
Monitors and maintains all records and reports as requested by the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program once designation is achieved.
Collaborates with other BSWH hospitals re: sustaining and growing Magnet concepts.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management; medications and drugs, common dosages, their physical and physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions.
Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide-range of constituencies.
Must have critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to observe changes in the medical condition of patients and effectively communicate these changes to other nursing staff members and physicians/providers.
Ability to provide age-specific, quality, patient-centered care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of human experience and to develop, evaluate, implement and, as necessary, modify a patient care plan to meet the needs of individual patients.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email
