Are you interested in becoming a Nursing Assistant and securing a rewarding career in health care with room to grow? Fairview has an amazing opportunity that will pay for your training and provide you paid experience while you train. Selected students will attend Minneapolis College, St. Paul College or Century College for classes at no cost and receive paid on-the-job training each week.
We provide a real world shadowing experience while you comple a nursing assistant certification. The CNA Dual Trainee will be mentored one-on-one to see a variety of areas including patient assessment, intervention, and care planning. You will gain confidence in patient care to enhance critical thinking and interpersonal skills in an acute care environment.
This unit provides care to medically ill adult patients with advanced monitoring using current technology, manages complex medication and infusion therapies, cares for patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit.
After securing a job offer with Fairview, Nursing Assistant Dual Trainees will receive a point of contact at their school of choice from the list below based on the location and class schedule that works best for the candidate:
Minneapolis College - classes starting in November and December
St. Paul College - classes starting in November and December
Century College classes starting in November and December
The course is approximately four weeks long and you will shadow within the hospital during this time.
This role will have two, eight hour shifts per week (16 hours per week) shadowing a nursing assistant
Shift can be day, evening, or night - we can pair the shift with your schedule
Day shift is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; Evening shift is 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm; Night shift is 11:00 pm to 7:30 am
Pay is $15.00/hour
Once you complete your course and certification we then discuss hiring you into a benefit eligible position
Location: M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center (East Bank)
NA Dual Trainee will shadow both the direct patient care and non-direct patient care aspects of being a nursing assistant. At their work location, the job shadowing they will be doing will immerse them in real life experiences they can relate back to their courses.
Examples of things NA Dual Trainee will shadow:
Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
Ordering and stocking of supplies

Shadow two, eight hour shifts per week (16 hours per week) for approximately four weeks while completing NA certification Fall 2021.
Attend mandatory Fairview orientation for one day (completed virtually on a Monday from 8am-4pm).
