The Syracuse VAMC is recruiting for one (1) full-time Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department (ED) Staff Nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving Emergency care through collaborative strategies with others. The ED Staff Nurse successfully performs activities appropriate to their grade as outlined in the Nurse Qualification Standards. These Standards identify the educational, experiential and competency requirements for the Registered Nurse at each grade. Male and female Veteran patients of all ages are included in this area of practice. Acute medical, surgical emergency patients are routinely cared for in this setting. He /she must meet the competencies for this area of practice. The ED Staff Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in a nursing care unit/area. He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice. The ED nurse demonstrates leadership when providing and improving patient care. The incumbent reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department. The ED staff nurse serves as a role model when functioning as team leader or charge nurse under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee.
