This is an open and continuous announcement which will be used to fill Licensed Practical Nurse positions in Community Living Center (CLC) at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The presence of a location on this announcement does not necessarily indicate a current vacancy. Applications will be reviewed and referred upon request from the service as vacancies arise. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) is a graduate of an approved school of practical or vocational nursing and is licensed to practice in the United States and/or its territories. The LPN provides nursing care, requiring the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences, to groups and individuals. He/she is under the direction of the registered nurse and has less than 6 months of experience. Duties include but are not limited to: Assists with the movement and mobility of the patient/resident by turning, lifting, moving, transferring and escorting patient/resident. Prepares and administers medications, as outlined in the policy and procedure manual. Participates in the admission, transfer and discharge of the patient/resident. The LPN provides direct care to male and female patients/ residents, from 18 years through adulthood, including the elderly. The LPN demonstrates competency in providing population based nursing care, including knowledge of developmental theories and the normal/abnormal physiological and psychosocial changes related to the aging process. Records in the medical record nursing care, observations, procedures, vital signs, treatments and medications. Contributes to the interdisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of the patient's/resident's treatment plan. Completes walking rounds and receives report on all patient/resident with oncoming and off-going charge person or team leader.
