The Registered Nurse possesses the knowledge and skills necessary for: Clinical treatment interventions and uses advanced clinical knowledge to raise awareness of the value of caregiver issues and improve the quality and access to caregiver services. Demonstrates competence and serves as a consultant to others in incorporating implant coordination at the facility. The Registered Nurse has Operating Room experience and understands the Operating Room Theater including policies and procedures related to sterility and sterile environment. Uses Critical Thinking skills related to data management vs patient care requirements. Comprehends implantable management: storage and temperature requirements, preparation, handling, and documentation. The RN Implant Coordinator develops and recommends policies and procedures for the tracking of all implant related processes for the organization. The RN Implant Coordinator is designated as the responsible official for all implant tracking for all implantable items. The RN Implant Coordinator must have knowledge of accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements. The RN Implant Coordinator must have knowledge of monitoring, evaluating, interpreting, and teaching others about policy and procedures related to implantable documentation. The RN Implant Coordinator is responsible for data maintenance and identification of incorrect documentation and implementing corrective action. The RN Implant Coordinator must have knowledge of federal, VHA, and state laws and regulations, reference standards, medicolegal responsibilities, and certifying and accrediting agency requirements to carry out the work in each ancillary implant site.
