New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a full-time (40 hr./5-day) experienced Oncology Nurse Navigator to support our Breast Care teams in our Scarborough ME clinic. Experience in breast oncology or women’s health is preferred.
NECS Nurse Navigators use oncology clinical knowledge to offer individualized care to patients, families, and caregivers to help navigate along the health care continuum. The Nurse Navigator provides nursing assessments and the triage of patient care needs over the phone and in the office, offering advice and counsel to patients as well as advising physicians of patient needs and recommended interventions. The Nurse Navigator works collaboratively with physicians, APP’s RN peers, Patient Care Coordinators, and other clinical and non-clinical staff within and outside the practice.

Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with patient scheduling and coordination of care.
Receive patient telephone calls and intervene appropriately for that patient’s specific needs promptly. Alert physician as needed to patient needs that require physician intervention.
Assist physicians; conduct patient assessments.
Follow up with patients as needed by telephone, to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
Ensures follow-up appointments and tests/procedures are scheduled for patients.
Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment, and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in-services and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations, and community-sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice and provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors
Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
Demonstrates respect for the life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
Associate of Nursing (AND) Required
Licensed RN with the State of Maine or ability to obtain
Two Years of Oncology/Hematology Nursing experienced required
2-5 years of professional nursing experience
Demonstrated superior communication with patients, physicians, and staff
Detailed-oriented, strong follow-up skills, management of multiple priorities
Bachelor of Nursing (BSN)
OCN certification or ability to obtain per guidelines of ONCC
ONS Chemo/Bio Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
2 years’ experience in Community Based Cancer Care
Breast Oncology or Women’s Health experience
