Department Description The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) specializes in the care of children with complex congenital cardiac disease. Surgical procedures include repair of congenital heart defects and permanent pacemaker insertion. Medical interventions include management of acute/chronic heart failure, septic shock, renal and respiratory failure. Critically ill children are cared for with such treatment modalities as mechanical ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, temporary pacemaker therapy, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and acute hemodialysis.
Job Summary * Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care * Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams * Carries out established nursing care for patients and performs related duties as required * Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs, with assistance and supervision * Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team
Required Qualifications * Two years of recent Pediatric Critical Care experience * Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California * Active American Heart Association CPR Certification * Active American Heart Association PALS Certification * The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications * Two or more years of recent RN experience in a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit * CCRN Certification * BSN
Licensure/Certification * Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California * Active American Heart Association CPR Certification * Active American Heart Association PALS Certification

Work Environment * Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture. * Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility. * Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows. * Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments. * Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft. The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations is required.
